Curators

Animal Farm

The Food/Wine/Design Fair has been based on a model that is unique to South Africa. At the heart of the Fair are the curators that Artlogic has partnered with to source and select the participants who will provide only the best local, high-quality goods to Fair visitors in November. This concept is central to the Fair and is what sets it apart from similar events in the country.

FOOD

The food component of the Food/Wine/Design Fair will be curated by Justin Rhodes and Cameron Munro of the celebrated, award-winning Neighbourgoods Market in Cape Town.

The Neighbourgoods Market at the Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock was founded in 2006 and operates every Saturday. The Market features over 100 traders specializing in organic, locally produced breads, cheeses, meats and vegetable products, in addition to micro enterprises and selected wines and spirits. This independent initiative was established in an effort to reintroduce the public market as a civic institution and allows visitors to learn more about the origins and processes behind the produce they buy.

WINE

Neil Pendock has been selected by Artlogic to curate the wine element of the Fair.

Pendock is an independent drinks commentator who is widely recognized as being South Africa's foremost wine writer. Having no financial affiliation with any producers, retailers or competitions, he is valued for his objectivity and disregard for institution. Neil has written on the subject of wine for a variety of publications, including The Sunday Times and Financial Mail. Voted ‘Most Trusted Palate’ by the readers of WINE Magazine (to which he also contributes), Pendock has judged at prestigious competitions like the Concours Mondial. The Good Value Guru is Neil Pendock's website and blog.

DESIGN

Trevyn and Julian McGowen of Source Design have collaborated with Artlogic to curate the design and craft component of the Food/Wine/Design Fair.

Source Design was started by Trevyn and Julian McGowen in an effort to bring the best local design talent to South African and international audiences. The company now has a stable of almost 360 designers and artists whose work is profiled at places like Bergdorf Goodman, Anthropologie and the Conran Shop. The McGowen's are constantly looking for fresh, established or developing designers and are largely responsible for the recent surge of interest in South African design product from both private and corporate international buyers.

The couple's Southern Guild collection, profiled at the Joburg Art Fair 2009 and 2010, has proved to be enormously popular with the public and has received widespread critical acclaim in the media.
